2024: Product Announcement
At the end of October 2024, Luna Diabetes introduced the world's smallest insulin pump to monitor glucose levels at night. The Luna system in the form of a patch works in conjunction with a continuous glucose monitoring device, which allows you to calculate and inject fast-acting insulin microdoses during sleep, preventing unnecessary fluctuations both in that and in the other direction.
The pump is also the easiest to use among all automated insulin delivery systems, the company said. In addition, it is equipped with an algorithm that allows you to combine the use of a pump with the use of conventional insulin pen syringes. However, according to the developers, Luna does not replace the use of long-acting insulin and diet correction, but only complements them.
The company began a clinical study of Luna's pump to evaluate the effects of a wearable insulin pump on blood sugar levels during sleep. The study assumes the use of the device at bedtime for 13 weeks, and the total duration of the study will be 17 weeks. The researchers intend to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of the device during sleep and wakefulness. The company expects to attract about 130 patients to participate and complete the study in August 2025.
The start of this research is an important milestone that brings Luna's pump closer to a market where it can benefit millions of people, company co-founder John Schölund wrote in a blog post. - The study will assess the safety and effectiveness of our system, becoming the first step towards regulatory approval of the new pump. We are confident that the results of the study will revolutionize nightly glucose control systems in patients with. diabetes mellitus[1] |
