2024: Arrest in an attempt to bribe a judicial official

The head of the Center for Crop Production of the All-Russian Research Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Alexander Morozov, was placed under house arrest on charges of trying to bribe an official of the judicial system. The decision on the measure of restraint was made on October 23, 2024 by the investigator of the department for the investigation of crimes of the Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

According to Kommersant, in December 2023, a 65-year-old doctor of agricultural sciences appealed to Kerim Akuev, head of the judicial department at the Supreme Court of Russia for Crimea, with a proposal to transfer ₽2 million for resolving the issue of a house in Yalta, which the scientist claimed.

The Main Investigation Department of the TFR incriminates Morozov with a crime under the article on attempted bribery of an official on an especially large scale. The sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of 8 to 15 years.

The scientist fully admitted guilt and actively cooperates with the investigation. In this regard, his case will be separated into a separate proceeding from the materials of the investigation against Kerim Akuev, who is accused of receiving illegal remuneration from construction contractors.

The investigation established that the head of the plant production center tried through a bribe to achieve a revision of the decision of the Yalta City Court on real estate rights or to receive compensation. The transfer of money to the board for civil cases of the Supreme Court of Crimea did not take place due to the detention of Akuev by FSB officers.

The court established house arrest for Morozov until December 22, 2024 with a ban on communication with witnesses, accused and suspects in the case, as well as colleagues and journalists. The scientist is prohibited from using the Internet, mail and phone, with the exception of emergency cases and communication with the investigator and lawyer.[1]
