2023: Catering market growth by 9.3% to RUR 800 bn
At the end of 2023, the volume of the Russian catering market exceeded 800 billion rubles. Growth in relation to 2022 was recorded at 9.3%. This is stated in a study by NeoAnalytics, the results of which TAdviser got acquainted with in early November 2024.
Catering companies provide catering services, including on-site service for events for various purposes and retail sale of catering products. Catering is considered a complex multi-level process, which consists of a number of interconnected services: presentation of dishes, design and setting of the table, maintenance of the corporate style of the event, etc.
In 2020, against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the catering market in Russia declined sharply. Demand decreased due to the ban on mass events, and the introduction of remote operation in many organizations led to a decrease in the demand for relevant services in the corporate sector. In addition, consumer enterprises of catering services themselves experienced financial difficulties, in connection with which they were forced to cut costs, including for meals for employees.
In 2021, significant growth was recorded, but in 2022 another decline followed, due to the deteriorating geopolitical situation: the decline was 5.9%. The industry was negatively affected by factors such as economic uncertainty and the departure of foreign companies from Russia, which are distinguished by high social security costs for their employees.
The authors of the report note that the Russian catering market is characterized by high competition. In the future, leaders are expected to strengthen their positions by leaving smaller participants - as a result of ruin or expulsion from the market.[1]
