2024: Sentence - life sentence
The Moscow Region Court on December 2, 2024 sentenced Stanislav Moiseev, the creator of the largest Russia to trade drug site in, DarknetHydra sentencing him to life imprisonment. His accomplices received sentences from 8 to 23 years in prison with fines totaling ₽16 million. The decision to confiscate the property of convicts includes vehicles, land and real estate.
According to RBC, the Hydra trading platform, aimed at Russian-speaking countries, began operation in 2015 through the Tor network and became the largest marketplace of the darknet. According to the report of the analytical company Chainalysis, in 2021, the site accounted for 80% of the global revenue of darknet markets. A feature of the platform was a strict security system and verification of all participants in trading operations.
According to the prosecutor's office, Germany about 17 million customers and over 19 thousand sellers were registered on the trading platform. German law enforcement agencies estimated Hydra sales in 2020 at at least €1.23 billion. The scale of the platform's operations attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies in several countries, leading to an international investigation.
During searches of the places of residence of the defendants, premises equipped for laboratories, garages and cars with special caches, law enforcement agencies seized almost a ton of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, the Moscow region prosecutor's office said. |
The court decided to confiscate in favor of the state all the property of the convicts. The seizure of property is preserved to ensure the payment of the imposed fines. The investigation revealed a complex system of financial transactions used to launder the proceeds of illegal activities. In 2022, the activities of the marketplace were terminated by the German authorities, and the US authorities imposed sanctions against the site.[1]
