December 4, 2024 T-Bank announced the launch of the Protection of Loved Ones - a free service that will help to additionally protect against. As reported, the purpose of the Protection of Loved Ones service is to help additionally protect people who may become victims of social engineering of fraudsters and, under their influence, try to voluntarily give money, ignoring banks' attempts to stop a risky operation. According to the Bank of Russia for 2023, more than 50% of fraudulent transactions are carried out using social engineering methods.

Using social engineering, attackers convince victims not only to transfer funds to a fraudulent account or card, but also to take a loan or withdraw money from deposits in order to further put money in a "safe" cell or in a "safe" account. The service "Protection of loved ones" protects customers from a whole set of the most relevant ways to steal money: transfers to unfamiliar details, taking out a loan, early closing of deposits. At the same time, the service sends for additional verification to trusted persons only transactions that fall under certain risk conditions.

Protecting loved ones will be especially relevant for older people who are more vulnerable to the methods of social engineering of fraudsters. The service will also help protect teenagers who may become a victim of deception with pseudo-labor or fall under the influence of scammers and become drops - issue a card for its further resale to cybercriminals.

How the "Protection of Loved Ones" service works:

  • The trustee receives information only about certain transactions: transfers by details for which the client has never made transfers before or within the last 30 days, as well as about a loan for any amount or early closure of deposits.
  • The rest of the operations are not visible to the trustee and do not come to him for additional verification. This allows once again not to disturb both parties with operations that do not carry risks and account for more than 98% of operations in T-Bank.
  • Additional confirmation does not include any other customer transactions.
  • In the event of a suspicious transfer, T-Bank will warn the trustee by SMS or push notification. The transaction must be confirmed within 24 hours, or it will be rejected.
  • The limit on transfers is set by the trustee during the invitation, the minimum amount is 10,000 ₽. All suspicious transfers in excess of the limit will be sent for confirmation.
  • To prevent deliberate disconnection of the service under the influence of fraudsters, after sending an application for disconnection, a "cooling" period will operate: the trustee will continue to receive applications for confirmation of transfers for some time, and he will also receive a notification about disconnecting the service by a loved one.
  • Both parties should be T-Bank customers. A trustee can take up to five people under protection. At the same time, the defended can have only one defender.
  • The service is free of charge.

How to connect the "Protection of loved ones" service:

  • You can become a trustee and receive information about operations in a couple of clicks in a mobile application.
  • To do this, you need to send an invitation in a special section "More" - "Security" - "Protection of loved ones."
  • After confirming the invitation, the ward's contact and information about operations that require confirmation will appear in the section.

In the future, the Protection of Loved Ones service will become a tool for personalized care for loved ones. Users will be able not only to control the selected operations, but also to connect free T-Bank security technologies to their loved ones, for example, the Protect or Refund service, Spam Protection and others.

T-Bank forms the following concept of customer protection: theft of funds is a problem of the bank, not the client. To do this, T-Bank has developed a comprehensive anti-fraud platform "T-Zashchita," which builds protection on the principle of echelons at all stages of a fraudulent scenario - from a call from an attacker to an attempt to withdraw funds from a client's account. The "Protection of Loved Ones" service will become another echelon of customer protection along with a number identifier, Neuroscientist, temporary blocking of calls, a 24/7 fraud monitoring system, a rapid response group and others.

In the fight against fraud, especially where social engineering is used, the principle works: one in the field is not a warrior. It is difficult for Russians to confront a fraudster alone - and in many ways this is the secret to the success of fraudsters. In their scenarios, attackers purposefully protect victims from communicating with loved ones so that they cannot stop them in time. At the same time, it was important for us to set up protection in such a way as not to disturb both sides with excessive checks and focus on tracking only truly fraudulent transactions.
