Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most frequent endocrine disorders among women of reproductive age, which, as of the end of 2024, occurs in 8-21% of representatives of this age group[1], with up to 70% of cases remaining undiagnosed.
This disease can be one of the causes of infertility, it is associated with various metabolic and hormonal disorders that can lead to acne, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, depression, endometrial cancer and some forms of breast cancer.
Insulin resistance is one of the causes of PCOS as well as metabolic syndrome, along with genetic and environmental factors. Therefore, in addition to medical treatment, a healthy lifestyle, including exercise and a balanced diet, plays an important role.
