2024: Conclusion of the agreement between India and Russia on the purchase of the system
In early December 2024, it became known about India's decision to conclude an agreement with Russia for the purchase of an improved Voronezh early warning radar system with a range of more than 8,000 km. The amount of the transaction is estimated at $4 billion.
The Voronezh radar family consists of meter (Voronezh-M, Voronezh-VP), decimeter (Voronezh-DM) and centimeter (Voronezh-SM) wave ranges. The platform includes a transceiver installation with a digital antenna array, a pre-fabricated building for personnel and several containers with radioelectronic equipment. The design allows you to quickly upgrade the system during operation if necessary. The radar manufacturer is Almaz-Antey Aerospace Defense Concern JSC.
Talks over radar supplies are underway between Ministry of Defence officials India and a Russian delegation led by Almaz-Antey, India Today reported. The deal was discussed at a high level during meetings in New Delhi and. Bangalore
It is assumed that about 60% of the Voronezh system components will be produced in India. According to reports, the radar may be mounted in Chitradurg in the Indian state of Karnataka. It is emphasized that the deal will not only strengthen India's security, but also expand the country's defense production sector, creating new opportunities for economic growth and industrial development. Experts believe that the acquisition of the Russian complex will put India on a par with a group of countries capable of tracking missile launches and air activity at long distances. With a wide range of action, the radar system will provide early warning of potential threats.[1]
