2024: Sentence - 6 years probation for a bribe of ₽1,4 million in exchange for leaking data from the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs
Former assistant to the operational duty officer of the 66th police department of the Russian MIA Administration for the Krasnogvardeisky district of St. Petersburg, Pavel Shchekotov, was sentenced to six years probation for transferring data on migrants from the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a bribe of ₽1,4 million. The decision was made on December 18, 2024 by the Primorsky District Court.
According to Kommersant, the court appointed the convict a probation period of five years, during which he will not be able to hold positions in the public service. The defendant fully admitted his guilt.
During the trial, it was established that from February 2023 to March 2024, the former policeman searched and transmitted information about foreign citizens through messengers to a certain citizen Sh. And her accomplices for a monetary reward of ₽1,4 million.
According to the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg, the convict used the funds received at his own discretion. The purpose of illegal actions was to organize illegal migration in the city.
The criminal case against citizen Sh., Who was the customer of information from police databases, was separated into a separate proceeding. The investigation is ongoing with the aim of identifying all participants in the criminal scheme.
According to the publication, only recently this is not the only case of conviction of law enforcement officers for corruption crimes in St. Petersburg. Earlier, the city court sentenced the former customs officer to ten years in prison and a fine of ₽52 million for taking bribes.
The transfer of confidential information from the databases of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is a serious violation of the law, since it can be used to organize illegal migration and other illegal actions in Russia.[1]
