2025: Sentence - 5 years in prison for RosDorBank robbery

On January 14, 2024, the Petersburg District Court sentenced to five years in a general regime colony and a fine of ₽200 thousand. Arthur Barbyntz for embezzlement of funds and valuables from bank cells totaling ₽1,64 billion.

According to RBC, two clients of RosDorBank in March 2024 announced the loss of $450 thousand and €30 thousand from rented cells. Later, another client discovered the loss of $800 thousand, €500 thousand and jewelry worth $10 million.

The investigation established that Artur Barbynets, a citizen of Russia and Moldova, received instructions for accessing the vault and opening the cells from his acquaintances. To penetrate the depository, he used the data of other people's bank cards and special electronic keys to open the cells.

After committing the theft, the attacker disappeared in Lyubertsy near Moscow, where he handed over the stolen to his accomplices. Law enforcement agencies detained a suspect at Sochi airport while trying to leave the country.

According to the publication, the joint press service of the courts of St. Petersburg reported that the court qualified the actions of the accused as one continuing crime under paragraph b of part 4 of Art. 158 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - theft committed by an organized group on an especially large scale.

In addition to the main punishment in the form of imprisonment and a fine, the court satisfied the civil claim of the victim against the convict in the amount of ₽72,55 million. The money and jewelry seized as physical evidence was returned to the rightful owners.

During the investigation, it was found that the crime was carefully planned and carried out using specially prepared technical means and internal information about the operation of the bank storage.[1]
