JTI is the leader in the Russian tobacco market for 2016. The company is represented in Russia by the marketing and sales division and four factories:
- Petro in St. Petersburg,
- Liggett-Dukat in Moscow,
- Kres Neva in the Leningrad Region and
- "J.T.I. Yelets" in the Lipetsk region.
About 4,500 employees work in sales offices and at the company's enterprises in Russia.
History
2024: Maintaining business in Russia amid conflict in Ukraine
The head of Japan Tobacco in April 2024 said that the company will maintain its profitable Russian business in order to satisfy investors after reorganizing supply chains in accordance with sanctions.
Masamichi Texatake said that "in the worst case," he is ready to separate his Russian unit, but does not believe that this is necessary under the current sanctions regime.
