2024: Production of pharmaceutical products in Kazakhstan for the year increased by 21.8% to ₸171,6

The Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan reported an increase in pharmaceutical production by 21.8% to ₸171,6 billion in 2024 compared to 2023. This became known in January 2025.

The volume of production of medicines in physical terms increased by 33.2% to ₸167,3 billion compared to ₸125,6 billion in 2023. The production of other pharmaceuticals increased by 13.3% to ₸13,1 billion.

Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Akmaral Alnazarova said that within the framework of long-term contracts for 2024, 702 names of pharmaceutical products were delivered. In 2025, production is expected to increase to 1,728 items.

Currently, 10 enterprises are engaged in the production of pharmaceutical products in Kazakhstan. At the same time, in 2024, an increase in the number of violations in the pharmaceutical industry was more than doubled - over a thousand cases.

According to the analytical company EnergyProm, the number of administrative violations in the field of illegal medical and pharmaceutical activities increased by 42%. Also revealed 29 cases of filing false data to obtain work permits in these areas.

The World Health Organization notes that in developing countries, one in ten packages of drugs is fake. In Kazakhstan, the share of counterfeit drugs exceeds 10% of the total market volume.

Almost two thousand people were brought to administrative responsibility for various violations in the pharmaceutical industry in 2024. Experts call the increase in the volume of counterfeit medicines the main reason for the increase in violations.

According to forecasts of the Ministry of Health, the development of domestic pharmaceutical production will continue in 2025 with an emphasis on expanding the range of products.^[1]
