Biography
1985-2015
Wenfeng was born in 1985 in Zhanjiang (Guangdong) in a family of elementary school teachers. He attended Zhejiang University, earning a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic Information Engineering in 2007 and a Master of Engineering degree in Information and Communication Engineering in 2010.
After completing his studies, Wenfeng moved to an inexpensive apartment in Chengdu (Sichuan), where he experimented with ways to apply AI in various fields. In the end, he focused on finance. In 2015, he co-founded the hedge fund High-Flyer, which used mathematical algorithms and AI to shape investment strategies.
2016-2023
In October 2016, High-Flyer created its first AI model. In 2019, Wenfeng founded High-Flyer AI, which was engaged in the development of AI algorithms and basic applications based on them. In 2021, the entrepreneur began purchasing thousands of Nvidia graphics accelerators for AI training.
In May 2023, Wenfeng announced that High-Flyer would develop general artificial intelligence: then the startup DeepSeek was launched. The company acquired approximately 10,000 Nvidia A100 cards, which laid the foundation for its activities as a developer of large language models.
2025
Chinese AI startup DeepSeek has made a lot of noise in Silicon Valley with the free reasoning model R1, as well as the powerful open V3, which outperforms most counterparts, including ChatGPT. At the same time, according to Reuters on January 28, 2025, the 39-year-old founder of DeepSeek Liang Wenfeng (Liang Wenfeng) in a matter of weeks became the face of the Chinese technology industry and its hope to overcome the constantly tightening export control from the United States.[1]
