2025: Analyst Platform Migration to Domestic Software

MegaFon has begun work on the migration of its analytical platform to domestic software. The base partner of the cellular operator in this process was the developer in the market of control and data processing systems - Arenadata Group. The implementation of the platform will allow MegaFon to solve the entire range of business tasks for the development of corporate data storage (QCD) using exclusively Russian solutions. MegaFon announced this on February 6, 2025.

In accordance with the agreement concluded between MegaFon the Arenadata Group, the mobile operator purchased licenses three vendor products: Database management system (DMS) Arenadata DB based on Greenplum\Greengage, for DBMS rapid analytics based on Arenadata QuickMarts ClickHouse and ecosystem of services for storing, processing and analyzing large amounts of data of any type based on ADH Spark, Trino, Impala with the ability to store in HDFS and S3-compatible Ozone.

All three solutions completely replace the products of foreign software used by the operator as of February 2025 and close the current needs of MegaFon in the storage and processing of corporate data.

The basic component of QCD will be Arenadata DB, designed to develop and operate, including the tasks of client analytics, preparation of financial, management and regulatory reports, as well as the preparation of data and analysis of the results of marketing campaigns.

Arenadata DB collects, transforms and interprets data from more than a hundred source systems, including MegaFon's billing systems.

Arenadata QuickMarts allows you to analyze a large amount of data much faster than traditional systems, without additional load on the data warehouse. Finally, the third product - ADH - is designed to solve application problems such as big data analytics and algorithmachine learning.

Migration to Russian analytics and storage software has become an urgent task for many Russian companies over the past two years. The equipment and software used earlier were purchased from foreign suppliers that left the Russian market.

The purchased software from Arenadata meets information security requirements, which is confirmed by the certification of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC).

The agreement with Arenadata Group was preceded by the testing of all the company's products in MegaFon, which took more than six months. As of February 2025, the migration process has entered an active phase, and the complete transition to domestic solutions is planned to be completed by 2028, while all work on software migration will take place in stages, "said Sergey Fedorchenko, Director of Enterprise Data Management at MegaFon.
