Customers: Aston Martin

Mechanical and Instrument Engineering

Product: Siemens NX

Project date: 2011/01

The Siemens PLM Software company, division of Siemens Industry Automation Division, software supplier and services for product lifecycle management (PLM), announced in February, 2011 that the Aston Martin company standardizes global development process of sports cars using NX™ – integrated solution for design automation, production and reverse engineering CADCAMCAE (//) and also Teamcenter® – knowledge management systems about products and processes. This solution will allow Aston Martin to increase performance, to improve joint processes and work of employees in the raspreldelenny environment at design-technology design of products.

The growing complexity of development and design of products forced a number of suppliers of automobile component parts to ask a question: whether systems now in use have the technical characteristics, best in the class? Two years ago the Aston Martin company began profound market research of the competing PLM systems. The decision on transition from the technologies applied at the moment to NX and Teamcenter was crucial in terms of continuation of production of some of the most outstanding sports cars in the world.

"The automotive industry is in process of grandiose conversions – both in respect of technology, and in respect of business. The growing complexity of cars and the changing economic conditions force car makers to review the applied PLM systems and to compare them to the best offers in the market", – Sandzhev of the PAL (Sanjeev Pal), the analyst of PLM in IDC Corp notes.

"In the conditions of the modern market such producers of cars of a premium-class as Aston Martin, should make project decisions quicker and more effectively. We are glad that for product development and their detailed engineering design our technology is selected that is a crucial condition for performance improvement", – Chuck Grindstaff, the president and CTO of Siemens PLM Software company said. "For car makers management of the growing complexity of all systems of the car became the imperative need that provides reduction of terms of development and high quality of products".

The decision Aston Martin on implementation of Siemens PLM Software technologies as the corporate PLM standard is confirmed by importance of the open PLM environment for promotion of innovations and management of escalating complexity of products and processes. Besides, this solution shows scalability of systems from Siemens PLM Software which meet the various requirements arising at implementation in a broad spectrum of the automobile enterprises.
