2025: Using the Jatoba DBMS

The decision of the Gazinformservice company - DBMS Jatoba - was chosen as a database management system in the joint project of the domestic developer IT Kontur and the St. Petersburg Research Institute of Ear, Throat, Nose and Speech of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation as part of the development of the Eskulap KI information system. The project is aimed at the practical introduction of neural networks for fine-tuning cochlear implants - medical devices that act on the auditory nerve and allow you to compensate for hearing loss. GIS announced this on March 20, 2025.

Thousands of people, including children, face hearing loss each year. According to statistics, every thousandth child in the Russian Federation is born deaf, two or three more lose their hearing in the first years of their life. Hearing loss often accompanies concussions received by SVO veterans. The installation of cochlear implants is one of the effective methods of solving this problem. Manual adjustment of such implants is a complex and long process that requires high qualifications of specialists.

The company "IT Kontur" based on the data provided by the Institute, developed specialized software "Esculap KI," designed for expert tuning of cochlear implants using neural network technologies. The Esculap KI project is a breakthrough in the field of medical technologies, using artificial intelligence to automate the most time-consuming stages of this procedure, significantly increasing its accuracy and accessibility. The neural network allows you to significantly increase the speed and quality of work of a specialist doctor. This is especially true when you consider the growing need for effective rehabilitation methods for children and adults with hearing impairments.

The configuration technology is an equally important task - reliable and safe storage of large amounts of medical data. It is here that the Jatoba database management system developed by Gazinformservice comes to the fore, which will be used for long-term storage of data: patient information, patient examination data, information on calculations made on the basis of examinations. At the same time, information is stored in anonymized form, and files are stored in file storage. Jatoba is protected from data failure and loss, which is critical for medical use.

Partnership with IT Kontur and the use of Jatoba DBMS in the target architecture of the Eskulap KI information system is an important step towards long-term cooperation between our companies in working on socially significant projects in the field of medicine and healthcare, - said Aleksei Beley, Sales Director of Jatoba DBMS LLC Gazinformservice.

Choosing a suitable storage system during the development of Eskulap, we settled on the Jatoba DBMS, - said Pavel Masalov, system architect of IT Kontur. - In the process of neural network training, it is required to process significant amounts of data with minimal delays; Jatoba DBMS provided us with this. This allowed our specialists to work with NS in fact in real time. The moment with the scalability of Jatoba is also important: this will allow the Institute to easily expand the database of patients who have undergone cochlear implantation.

In addition to purely medical and technical aspects, anonymity and preservation of our patients' data is of particular importance to us. In this regard, Jatoba approached the project as best as possible, - emphasized the head of the laboratory of electrophysiology and artificial intelligence, Ph.D., associate professor of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "St. Petersburg Research Institute of Ear, Throat, Nose, and Speech" of the Ministry of Health of Russia Sergei Lyovin.
