2025: Global Medical Lasers Market Size Reaches $5.47 Billion for the Year

In 2024, costs in the global medical laser market amounted to $5.47 billion. More than 40% of this amount fell on the North American region. Such data are provided in the Fortune Business Insights review, published at the end of March 2025.

Lasers are used in various fields of medicine - in surgery, oncology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, dentistry, traumatology and orthopedics, dermatology and cosmetology. In surgery in particular, medical lasers are used for interventions of varying degrees of complexity. Low trauma, good hemostasis, antiseptic properties, non-contact, analgesic effect of the laser beam give it significant advantages over traditional surgical instruments. In cosmetology, laser installations are widely used for epilation. In dermatology, high-intensity laser radiation is used to remove local neoplasms and defects, and low-intensity radiation is used to improve and rejuvenate the skin. Laser therapy is also used in sports medicine in the treatment of various types of injuries.

Analysts cite the growing demand for minimally invasive and cosmetic procedures as one of the drivers of the medical laser market, as well as for medical operations related to age-related conditions. In particular, services for laser vision correction, skin lightening and pigmentation removal are in demand. Technological advances play an important role in expanding the industry, including the emergence of advanced laser installations optimized for specific procedures.

The study says that the COVID-19 pandemic had a negative impact on the market. Quarantine restrictions imposed around the world have led to lower sales of medical lasers. Hospitals and specialist clinics have drastically reduced the number of patients undergoing laser procedures. For example, according to a report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 757,808 laser hair removal procedures were performed in the United States in 2020, up from 1,055,456 the year before. Analysts call the high cost of services another deterrent, which limits demand in developing regions.

By installation type, the market is segmented into surgical, dental, aesthetic lasers and other types of equipment. In 2024, the decisions of the first of these classes provided the largest revenue - over 50% in total. More than a third - 34.7% - came from aesthetic lasers. Strengthens the dental laser segment against the background of the prevalence of dental diseases combined with increasing awareness of oral health. Geographically, North America dominates, accounting for 43.5% of global costs, or $2.38 billion. For comparison, in 2023, the volume of the American market was estimated at $2.24 billion. The Asia-Pacific region, in second place, has the fastest growth rate. Significant players in the global industry are named:

  • Bausch Health Companies;
  • Cynosure Lutronic;
  • Lumenis Be Ltd.;
  • Candela;
  • Topcon;
  • Lumibird;
  • Iridex;
  • Sisram Medical Ltd (Alma Lasers);
  • Biolase;
  • El.En. S.p.A.;
  • Lameditech.

In 2025, spending on medical lasers worldwide is expected to reach $5.83 billion. Fortune Business Insights analysts believe that in the future, the CAGR in the market under consideration will be 9.9%. As a result, by 2032, costs will rise to $11.26 billion.[1]
