2025: Transfer of the Russian Navy

The Russian Navy (Navy) was replenished with a large Project 636.3 Yakutsk diesel-electric submarine armed with Caliber cruise missiles and torpedoes to destroy sea and ground targets. The ceremony of transferring the ship took place at the Admiralty Shipyards enterprise in St. Petersburg under the leadership of Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Vorobyov in mid-June 2025.

According to Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the completion of all stages of factory sea and state tests of the new submarine. During the ceremony, the St. Andrew's flag was solemnly raised on board the ship.

Admiral Vorobyov congratulated the team of the shipbuilding enterprise and the crew of the submarine on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev. He wished the submariners a successful performance of combat missions under the St. Andrew's flag.

"Yakutsk" became the sixth ship in a series of submarines under construction for the Russian Pacific Fleet. The laying of the vessel took place in August 2021 at the shipyards of St. Petersburg, and the launch took place in October 2024.

Project 636.3 submarines are designed to solve a wide range of combat missions. The main functions of the ships are to combat enemy underwater and surface targets, conduct reconnaissance operations and protect the maritime borders of Russia.

For the high characteristics of stealth and the low level of acoustic visibility, the submarines of this project received the designation "Black Hole" in NATO. This indicates the difficulty of detecting them by the enemy during combat missions.

The technical characteristics of Yakutsk comply with project standards 636.3. The underwater displacement of the ship is about 3950 tons, the length exceeds 74 meters. The crew of the submarine numbers 52 people.[1]
