2025: Recall of 1.2 million defective powerbanks that could catch fire for no reason
In June 2025, Anker announced the recall of 1.2 million portable chargers because they are potentially dangerous due to the risk of fire. Anker and CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) have published instructions on how to identify a faulty model and what to do next. The CPSC notes that Anker received 19 reports of fires and explosions, including two reports of minor burns that do not require medical attention, and 11 of material damage totaling more than $60.7 thousand.[1]
