2024: The volume of the psychic and fortune teller services market in Kazakhstan soared 75 times over the year to ₸2,9 billion

The esoteric services sector in Kazakhstan showed growth in 2024. According to the Bureau of National Statistics of Kazakhstan, magic and occult specialists provided services in the amount of ₸2,9 billion (₽435 million), which exceeded the results of 2023 by 75 times - a year earlier (2022) the volume of such services was only ₸39,5 million (₽5,9 million). This became known in July 2025.

According to RTVI, the structure of payments for esoteric services shows a significant diversification of the customer base. Individuals contributed about half of the total - ₸1,5 billion (₽225 million). The remaining funds came from legal entities and other sources to astrologers, fortune tellers and psychics.

Kazakh experts note the incompleteness of official statistics on this segment, since a significant part of the market operates in the "gray" zone. The sharp increase in the declared income of occult practitioners is partially due to changes in budget policy and business legalization processes. The activities of healers, magicians and predictors in the republic remain ad hoc and do not require licensing. However, the national classifier of economic activity contains a special code for registering individual entrepreneurship in the field of "providing other individual services."

The statistical department divides esoteric services into two categories: psychics are separately taken into account and astrologers, spirits with fortune tellers separately. The second group showed the most dynamic development, taking 92.3% of the market with a turnover of ₸2,7 billion (₽405 million). Psychics recorded revenues of ₸225,7 million (₽33,9 million).

Analysts at the Finprom.kz portal attribute the rapid growth in the income of occult specialists to several key factors. The main incentive was tax reforms - the abolition of a single aggregate payment for self-employed citizens and the introduction of mandatory registration of entrepreneurship with an annual income of 12 minimum wages (₸1 million or ₽150 thousand). The second driving force was the increased consumer interest in mystical practices.[1]
