2025: Arrest on hacking charges
MINISTRY OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS Russia Anton Nesterov, senior operative of the 4th department of the bureau of special technical measures, was arrested To Moscow on charges of committing crimes similar to those that he was supposed to fight as part of his official duties. An employee of one of the most classified units of the Russian police is accused of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale and unlawful access to computer information, which led to grave consequences. Under the article on computer crimes, he faces up to seven years in prison. This became known on August 8, 2025.
According to Kommersant, the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for Moscow is investigating a criminal case against an operative under two articles of the Criminal Code. Nesterov is charged under part 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code on receiving a bribe on an especially large scale and under article 272 of the Criminal Code on unlawful access to computer information.
The detention of the defendant took place in May 2025, but information about the case became public much later. On August 12, 2025, the Moscow City Court will consider the complaint of Nesterov's defense against the next extension of the preventive measure in the form of detention.
According to the publication, the courts had not previously doubted the validity of the chosen preventive measure. The courts indicated that the materials presented by the investigation contain information confirming the validity of Anton Nesterov's suspicions of involvement in the acts imputed to him.
The judges also noted the high risks of hiding the accused from the investigation and trial in the event of a change in the preventive measure. It was indicated that with house arrest or release, Nesterov could hide and put pressure on the participants in the investigation.[1]
