2025: Malfunction due to ransomware virus attack
In mid-August 2025, the British telecommunications operator Colt Technology Services was attacked by a ransomware virus. The cyber attack led to technical problems, due to which the company was forced to disable part of its services.
Colt conducts activities in areas such as fiber optic networks, cloud services, data center services, voice, security tools, etc. The official notification of the operator says that due to the hacker intrusion, the Colt Online and Voice API services were disabled. These systems are down for several days as of August 20, 2025.
| We continue to work tirelessly to restore our internal services after a cyber incident. We are sorry that some of our systems, including Colt Online and Voice API, are still unavailable. As a precaution after the attack, we had to temporarily disable these services, Colt said in a statement. |
The telecom operator does not go into details about the nature of the cyber attack, but emphasizes that it did not affect the infrastructure of customers. For communication, the company offers to leave requests by e-mail or phone. It is emphasized that the response time can be "longer than usual."
| We have the ability to monitor our customers' networks and we continue to effectively manage network incidents, but we are now operating at a greater volume than usual and performing manual operations. We are working hard to fully restore our automated monitoring system. Our teams continue to work around the clock to restore internal systems affected by the recent cyber incident, adds Colt.[1] |
