2025: President Sweetheart's party loses Buenos Aires province election
The elections in the province of Buenos Aires in September 2025 turned into a serious blow to the President of Argentina Javier Miley. His party, La Libertad Avanza, received only about a third of the vote, losing almost 15 points to the Peronists, who managed to mobilize the base and regain the initiative.
It's not just about local voting: Buenos Aires is a key economic and political center of the country, and the result here sets the tone for all of Argentina.
Miley admitted defeat, but promised not to retreat from the tough economic line and the program of cuts.
However, it was this policy that became the main source of discontent: social costs increased protest sentiments, and corruption scandals around the president's entourage undermined confidence in the "anti-system" image.
Against this background, the Peronists were able to restart their own brand: Kisilof strengthened the status of the leader of the opposition, and Cristina Fernandez uses the moment to return to the public field.
Buenos Aires showed the limits of the libertarian experiment: charisma and radical promises do not replace sustainable alliances and social guarantees.
