2025: Development of two-stroke engine parts manufacturing technology for UAVs
In September 2025, it became known that the Russian company LLC "Criterion" for the first time in the country mastered the technology of manufacturing complex parts of a two-stroke aircraft engine for unmanned aerial vehicles. The company coped with the task two months after the customer - the company "Unioprom" - for nine months could not find a contractor for the piece production of five components. Russia previously lacked the necessary technology for the manufacture of such elements for aircraft engines. The first batch of parts was shipped in May 2025.
According to the publication "Made with us," the company "Unioprom" specializes in research and development work in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. The company develops aircraft-type models for the defense complex and the industrial sector. Designers create UAVs that are not inferior in technical characteristics to foreign counterparts.
The complexity of production consisted not only in small-scale production, but also in the lack of technological competencies in Russia. The details of the two-stroke aircraft engine required special knowledge and equipment. The long search for a contractor did not bring results due to the technological restrictions of domestic manufacturers.
LLC "Criterion" agreed with the customer to change the design of parts for adaptation to Russian production capabilities. The company has made the necessary adjustments to the technical documentation. The specialists took into account the peculiarities of the existing equipment and technological processes. This approach made it possible to accelerate the development of production.
The tests performed fully confirmed the quality of the manufactured parts. Components demonstrated high strength under significant aircraft loads. The first batch was successfully applied in the assembly of the engine. The test results met the customer's technical requirements.[1]
