2025: Car recall due to fire risks while driving

The Chinese automaker BYD announced the largest recall in its history - the company will send more than 115 thousand electric vehicles of the Tang and Yuan Pro series to service centers. The cars were produced between 2015 and 2022. This was reported by Reuters with reference to the State Administration for Market Regulation of the PRC on October 17, 2025.

Two models of electric vehicles with different technical defects are subject to recall. The regulator has identified malfunctions that could affect the safety of vehicles.

A part of BYD Tang cars produced between 2015 and 2017 was found to have an error in the electronic electric motor control unit. In rare cases, the controller may have dropped the battery charge incorrectly. This caused the control board to overheat. As a result of the malfunction, the car lost the ability to move on electric traction.

The manufacturer plans to fix the problem by updating the software of the electronic unit. After installing the new firmware, the system will discharge the battery through the electric motor itself. This discharge method is safer and eliminates the risk of overheating of the control board.

Yuan Pro models manufactured between 2021 and 2022 have a problem with the installation of a battery pack seal. When assembling cars, the seal was not always mounted correctly. This led to a decrease in the tightness of the battery compartment.

With prolonged movement on water at high speed, moisture can penetrate into the battery. The ingress of water into the battery pack leads to a drop in the power of the power plant and a malfunction of the electrical equipment of the car. On all vehicles with a detected defect, the manufacturer will strengthen the battery case with a special sealant and restore protection against water penetration.[1]
