2025: VMmanager Implementation
Power grids of Kuban"" introduced a domestic platform virtualizations VMmanager from the company ISPsystem to replace the departed foreign one. ON This allowed to power engineering specialists us to consolidate the disparate infrastructure, increase its fault tolerance for critical dispatch systems and create a single service management model. IT ISPsystem announced this on October 20, 2025.
JSC "Electricity Network Kuban" is one of the leaders of the energy market of the South of Russia, providing the transmission and distribution of electricity for 1 million consumers in 25 municipalities of the Krasnodar Territory. The company operates in 24/7 mode, and its key task is the uninterrupted operation of critical systems such as dispatch and telemechanics. In this regard, the key task of the IT division of Kuban Electric Networks is to ensure the operability of the company's critical business processes. The area of responsibility of the team includes support for the functioning of the infrastructure (server and hardware environments), as well as the corporate data network through which communication between branches and access to automation systems are implemented; and security management, such as setting up policies, access rules, and link protection.
Previously, the company's virtual infrastructure was a "zoo" of solutions from foreign vendors (VMware, Citrix, Microsoft), which was a legacy of extensive development. After limiting software support in 2022, the company faced the task of import substitution in the face of high requirements for the reliability of the energy system.
The solution was the domestic VMmanager platform - a scalable platform for creating a fault-tolerant virtualization environment. The solution supports both hardware and container virtualization, isolating virtual infrastructure from physical infrastructure and abstracting resource management. Its choice was due to the availability of certificates from the Ministry of Digital Development, entry into the Astra Group ecosystem and built-in fault tolerance mechanisms. The platform supports microservice architecture and clustering, which ensures continuous operation of virtual machines even in case of hardware failures. The implementation took place in several stages: after six months of testing in 2024, a smooth transfer of employees and services to the new system began.
As of October 2025, VMmanager has deployed a failover cluster infrastructure of eight, servers ready to scale. Thanks to the platform, the company has moved from scattered management to a centralized service model. Built-in automation tools reduced the deployment time of clusters of any complexity from a few days to several hours, and the built-in image catalog OS and ready-made scripts minimized manual labor.
| The main plus is that we have moved from disparate infrastructure management to a centralized service model. Previously, critical systems, such as dispatching, were administered by the business units themselves. Thanks to VMmanager, the IT department provides colleagues with a ready and standardized service. This reduces the operational load on the units and increases the overall manageability, "said Evgeny Kaibilov, Information Technology Director of Kuban Electric Grid JSC. |
| We are pleased that our platform helps ensure the uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure of companies such as Kuban Electric Grid. Their experience proves that the transition to domestic software can be carried out efficiently and safely even in high-load systems of the energy sector. The created basis allows the company to confidently scale and comply with regulatory requirements, - said Ivan Nistratov, Sales Director of ISPsystem. |
