2025: Product Announcement
At the end of October 2025, the presentation of the Prolo Ring smart ring took place. This gadget is conceived as an alternative to a computer mouse.
According to News Atlas, attempts have been repeatedly made to replace the standard mouse with more convenient ring-shaped solutions, but the early prototypes turned out to be too large and heavy. The developers have proposed an elegant Prolo Ring device, characterized by a laconic design and light weight - about 5 grams.
Externally, the Prolo Ring resembles a conventional decoration, but includes three key elements: a trackpad (operated by the thumb), a six-axis motion sensor, and a "modstrip" (in fact, a duplicate trackpad designed to control the index finger of the other hand). The main control of the cursor is performed by the thumb: hover, click, swipe, zoom or swipe gestures.
The functionality of the device is not limited to simple operations. According to News Atlas, Prolo Ring is capable of recognizing more than 40 movements of the index finger on which it is worn. All gestures can be customized to suit the user's individual needs. For example, using a ring, you can switch between windows in the browser or control the playback of videos on YouTube.
The main advantage of Prolo Ring, according to the developers, is the ability to work without taking your hands off the keyboard. This is enough for games, presentations and standard tasks. However, according to Prolo CEO Joey Cheng, the device has flaws and cannot completely replace the mouse in tasks that require high accuracy, such as 3D modeling or photo processing.[1]
