2024: Sales of smart devices with personal security features reached $41.1 billion
At the end of 2024, the global market for smart devices with personal security functions amounted to $41.1 billion. More than a third of global sales in monetary terms were in the North American region. Such data are provided in a Fortune Business Insights study, the results of which were published on October 24, 2025.
Analysts consider deliveries of various products offering features such as Emergency Call Button (SOS), Location Data Transfer, Vital Performance Monitoring, etc. These can be smartwatches and fitness trackers, special wearable recorders, etc. Personal security tools help to quickly contact rescue services or trusted contacts in an emergency by pressing a button or by triggering sensors. Some gadgets are able to track vital signs, such as heart rate, and send a signal on their own in the event of anomalies.
One of the market drivers, the authors of the study call the growing popularity of all kinds of wearable devices. Leading consumer brands, electronic engineers including, and Apple, Samsung Garmin integrate various personal safety features, such as fall detection and heart rate monitoring, into their smartwatches.
An aging population also has a stimulating effect on the market. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2024, the global average life expectancy reached 73.3 years, which is 8.4 years more than in 1995. According to forecasts, the global number of people aged 60 and over will increase from 1.1 billion in 2023 to 1.4 billion in 2030. The elderly are more susceptible to chronic diseases and accidents such as falls and loss of orientation. In such situations, personal security functions in wearable devices that can automatically send notifications to loved ones or contact emergency services can come to the rescue.
Technological advances also contribute to the development of the industry. The developers equip wearable gadgets with next-generation high-precision sensors that allow you to track various vital signs of the user's body and record dangerous changes. At the same time, the integration of artificial intelligence helps to analyze information in real time and take the necessary actions.
Depending on the scope of use of devices with personal security functions, consumer and defense segments, the healthcare sector, etc. are distinguished. In 2024, the lion's share of revenue was provided by the first of these categories of users - 60.8%.
