2025: 25-year prison sentence for undermining GRU officer's car

On November 20, 2025, the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced Yevgeny Serebryakov, a former analyst at TVS Uzbekistan Bank (a branch of the Georgian TBC Bank). The defendant was found guilty of committing a terrorist act against a GRU officer in the summer of 2024 and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, Serebryakov was convicted under four articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including preparation for a terrorist act, its commission, as well as illegal trafficking and the manufacture of explosive devices (part 1 of article 30, part 2 of article 205, part 4 of article 222.1 and part 3 of article 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

A court in Moscow sentenced an ex-analyst of TVS Uzbekistan bank to 25 years in prison for undermining a GRU employee's car

The court found that Serebryakov, using his official position, independently contacted Ukrainian bloggers and offered them assistance in obtaining data on Russian military personnel. According to Kommersant, he was subsequently fired from the bank after an unsuccessful polygraph security check.

According to the official version, through the online game Mobile Legends, curators contacted Serebryakov, offering to commit a terrorist attack. As a reward, he was promised a monetary reward (from $10 thousand to $20 thousand) and the provision of Ukrainian citizenship.

The state prosecution petitioned for a sentence of 28 years in prison, but the court took into account mitigating circumstances: a full admission of guilt to the defendants, his repentance, as well as providing them with information about the prepared but not carried out terrorist attack against an employee of the RF IC. In addition, the court took into account the reconciliation of the defendant with the victims - an employee of the GRU and his wife.

After committing the crime, Serebryakov flew to Turkey, from where he was subsequently deported. During the trial, he refused the last word.

The first five years the convict will serve in prison, the next - in a strict regime colony. In addition, the court sentenced him to a fine of 1 million rubles.[1]
