2025: Commissioning
At the end of November 2025, the Sovcomflot Group of Companies (SKF), one of the leaders in the global tanker industry, commissioned a new large-tonnage tanker of MR size, named Ivan Aivazovsky in honor of the outstanding marine painter.
The vessel "Ivan Aivazovsky" was built at the Russian shipyard "Zvezda" (in the city of Bolshoi Kamen, Primorsky Territory) and will operate under the state flag of Russia.
Key characteristics and operational capabilities of the Ivan Aivazovsky dual-fuel tanker:
- deadweight ( total weight of payload, fuel supplies, provisions, drinking water, crew and passengers with baggage that the ship is able to take for safe operation without exceeding the permissible precipitation): 49.8 thousand tons;
- dimensions: length - 183 m, width - 32.2 m, draft - 13.4 m;
- ice class: 1B, which allows you to work in regions with difficult ice conditions;
- environmental standard: equipped with a dual-fuel power plant using liquefied natural gas (LNG) as the main fuel.
Ivan Aivazovsky is the lead vessel of the new series and the first dual-fuel tanker in Russia of MR size. Its use will significantly reduce the volume of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The vessel meets all relevant international environmental requirements.
Igor Tonkovidov, General Director and Chairman of the Board of Sovcomflot PJSC, noted that new tankers are critically important for ensuring stable energy transportation. He expressed confidence in the demand for a series of environmentally friendly food carriers for Russian foreign trade. Tonkovidov stressed that the production of such ships at the domestic shipyard, taking into account the experience of Sovcomflot, meets the highest industry standards.[1]
