2024: Global Ambient Computing Market Size Reaches $46.86 Billion for the Year

In 2024, spending on the global market of the so-called "Ambient Computing" amounted to $46.86 billion. More than a third of global spending was in the North American region. Such data are provided in a Fortune Business Insights study, the results of which were published on December 12, 2025.

By ambient (or ubiquitous) computing, analysts mean computer and digital technologies integrated into the environment to provide organic, personalized interaction. Similar platforms combine all kinds of sensors and data collection devices, which are then analyzed using artificial intelligence. As a result, systems can predict a person's actions and adapt to their needs without the need for explicit commands.

The authors of the study call the key driver of the industry achievements in the field of AI. Neural networks are able to quickly analyze huge amounts of heterogeneous information from various sources, providing a deeply personalized user experience. AI algorithms can evaluate the situation in real time, identify hidden trends and anticipate the actions of people. At the same time, AI models are constantly trained, which over time makes the process of interaction with digital systems more natural.

The development of peripheral computing has a positive impact on the market. This approach makes it possible to process data locally, without the need to send it to third-party cloud platforms. This reduces latency, which is critical for real-time systems and context-sensitive services. In addition, security risks associated with the transfer of information are reduced. The expansion of the peripheral infrastructure enables the deployment of scalable and efficient systems that ensure smooth and fast operation of various applications. Another stimulating factor is the growing consumer interest in smart home ecosystems.

The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning into ubiquitous computing opens up new opportunities for market participants. These technologies allow systems to study human behavior, understand oral speech, recognize gestures and dynamically adapt their work depending on the situation, the study says.

Analysts segment the market into hardware solutions, software and services. In 2024, the largest share of revenue was provided by services - $20.38 billion. Depending on the technologies used, peripheral artificial intelligence, computer vision, natural language processing (NLP) and other tools (voice and gesture recognition, etc.) stand out. The first of these destinations dominates with $18.41 billion, or 39.3%. NLP accounted for approximately 30.5%. From a geographical point of view, the most significant contribution is made by North America - 34.2%, or $16.01 million. Major industry players on a global scale are:

In 2025, the volume of the market in question is expected to reach $57.71 billion. Fortune Business Insights analysts forecast a Compound Percentage CAGR of 24.59% going forward. Thus, by 2032, costs could rise to $269 billion.[1]
