2025: Product Announcement

In December 2025, Finnish startup Ixi announced its entry into the final stage of developing glasses with automatic focusing. These glasses eliminate the limitations of traditional models, providing a clear image at both close and long distances.

Ixi developers are positioning their optical device as "the world's first autofocus glasses" designed to replace traditional reading glasses. A key feature of Ixi glasses is the ability of lenses to track eye movement and instantly adjust focal length. The principle of operation is based on the technology of liquid crystals, which are usually used in displays of smartphones and TVs.

In glasses layer of these crystals is placed between optical elements of lenses. Special sensors in the frame are recorded when the user looks at a close object. At this point, a weak electrical voltage is applied to the crystals, which changes their position and increases the optical power of the lens for clear focus. When looking into the distance, the tension is released, and the lenses return to the standard settings.

According to the company, the final product does not visually differ from ordinary glasses and even weighs less - only 22 g. To keep the built-in sensors and focus change system running, you need to charge the battery daily.

The manufacturing process is divided, with electronic components to be manufactured in and Finland frames to be hand-finished in. Italy The company plans to produce several styles of frames, each with adjustable ear pads and nose stops.

According to the developers, their goal is not to create a technological gadget, but a premium accessory that combines functionality, comfort and style.

The exact price of the glasses has not been disclosed. Ixi indicates that this information will become available closer to the official launch of the product on the market.[1]
