2025: An ambulance in Spain began using UAVs for emergency patient transport
In early December 2025, in Zaragoza (Spain), EHang conducted the first city flights of an unmanned electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) in Europe as part of an emergency response. The event was one of the stages of the project of the European Union U-SAVE (Urban Supply Aerial Vehicles for Emergencies), aimed at creating emergency air transport solutions.
According to the press service of the EHang company, the demonstration flights were carried out by the autonomous apparatus eVTOL EH216-S. The aircraft flew between various points in the city. The flights are part of a strategic agreement between EHang and the municipality of Zaragoza signed in 2021.
TheAccording to the EHang press service, as part of the project, the unmanned aircraft system was EH216-S integrated with the ANRA U-Space certified airspace management platform. This integration provided a comprehensive solution for the urban air mobile environment, enabling the deployment of emergency response services within a single digital ecosystem.
The event was attended by representatives of the authorities and industry. The mayor of Zaragoza, Natalia Chueca, said the city aims to become a platform for the introduction of new technologies that improve the quality of life of citizens. Marty Massot, head of the southern innovation hub of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology in Urban Mobility, stressed the value of public-private partnership in developing innovative transport solutions.
EHang Executive Director for Europe and Latin America Victoria Jing Xiang noted that unmanned eVTOLs are able to provide an effective and prompt response in emergency situations, bypassing ground obstacles and promptly providing the necessary assistance.[1]
