2024: Global Tracheostomy Products Market Size Reaches $1.18 Billion for the Year

In 2024, expenditures on the global tracheostomy market amounted to $1.18 billion. More than a third of global costs came from the North American region. Such data are presented in the Data Bridge Market Research (DBMR) study, the results of which TAdviser got acquainted with at the end of December 2025.

A tracheostomy is a surgical procedure to create an opening (stoma) in the front wall of the trachea to provide breathing, bypass blockage of the upper respiratory tract, facilitate the removal of sputum, or connect to a ventilator (IVL). The procedure is carried out in emergency situations (acute asphyxia, facial injuries, foreign bodies), as well as during routine interventions related to malignant tumors, severe infections, prolonged edema, etc.

One of the drivers of the market, the authors of the study name an increase in the prevalence of respiratory diseases such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). It is a common ailment that causes air flow in the airways to be restricted and makes breathing difficult. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), COPD ranks fourth among the leading causes of death worldwide: in 2021, the disease claimed the lives of 3.5 million people. Tracheostomy in COPD provides stable breathing and reliable access to the lower respiratory tract, and improves the quality of life of patients with severe respiratory failure. In addition, an increase in demand for tracheostomy products is facilitated by an increase in the number of people with head and neck cancer who require appropriate surgical interventions.

The aging of the population has a stimulating effect on the industry. According to WHO estimates, in 2024, the global average life expectancy reached 73.3 years, which is 8.4 years more than in 1995. According to forecasts, the global number of people aged 60 and over will increase from 1.1 billion in 2023 to 1.4 billion in 2030 and 2.1 billion in 2050. Against this background, there is an increase in the number of elderly citizens in need of long-term artificial ventilation of the lungs around the world, which leads to an increase in sales of tracheostomy products.

Analysts also note that the expansion of the market is further facilitated by improved awareness of minimally invasive surgical procedures and strengthening the infrastructure of postoperative care, especially in developing regions.

By product type, the industry is segmented into tracheostomy tubes, cannulas, cleaning and care kits, catheters, dressings, ventilation accessories, etc. In 2024, the largest share of revenue was brought by products of the first type - 49.4%. Geographically, North America leads, accounting for 36.76% of spending. The largest growth rates are observed in the Asia-Pacific region. The major players on a global scale are:

  • Medtronic;
  • Smiths Group;
  • Teleflex Incorporated;
  • Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Limited;
  • Convatec Group;
  • Cook Group;
  • Pulmodyne;
  • Fujifilm Holdings;
  • Andreas Fahl Medizintechnik-Vertrieb;
  • Boston Medical Products;
  • Atos Medical;
  • Troge Medical;
  • Well Lead Medical;
  • Angiplast;
  • ICU Medical;
  • Key Surgical;
  • Boehringer Laboratories;
  • Dynarex.

Data Bridge Market Research analysts predict that in the future, the CAGR in the tracheostomy market will be 5.8%. Thus, by 2034, expenses may increase to $1.86 billion.[1]
