The project of IT infrastructure of the General Electric plant in Kaluga

The SONET company completed the large-scale project on creation of IT - infrastructure of the new plant of the international company General Electric in Kaluga.

The General Electric (GE) company is the multi-profile corporation working in the field of high technologies. The field of activity of the company covers including to the power engineering specialist – GE is one of world leaders in development of technologies of generation and distribution of energy. In 2008 the company management made the decision on construction of the plant in the Kaluga region – the Center of energy technologies General Electric. The project was implemented in the territory of the industrial Rosva park in the Kaluga region. The center was constructed from scratch in only 20 months from the moment of signing of the investment agreement between GE and the leadership of the Kaluga Region. In the new service center repair of gas turbines and other equipment which works in different regions of Russia and the CIS countries will be performed. The total amount of investments into the project was $50 million, the total area of the plant – 4500 sq.m.

So large-scale project demanded strong support from IT and use of modern approaches in creation of infrastructure of the new enterprise. But the new plant it was necessary to create IT - the infrastructure integrating computing, engineering and communications systems. As the contractor after creation of IT - infrastructures of the new plant the system integrator - SONET company was selected. Experience of implementation of difficult infrastructure projects and a clear understanding of business challenges of the Customer was key criterion when choosing the contractor on creations of information component of the plant. The key role was also played by high competence of the company of the involved IT industries.

During the project it was created optimal by IT - infrastructure under needs of the Customer. The project included creation of the structured cable network, the system of digital video surveillance, a control system of access, the warning system about emergencies and also a complex of the low-current systems. Implementation of all elements of engineering infrastructure was performed in parallel with construction of the enterprise.

Characteristics of the project:

• The Structured Cabling System (SCS) is Molex of PN of category 6e, about 300 ports (including the fiber-optic communication line about 6 km. optical lines);
• System of digital video surveillance (38 Vivotek digital cameras);
• Digital control system of access (PERCO S-20);
• The warning system about emergencies (Inter-M System);
• Low-current systems.

Thus the development strategy of the new plant got support at the level of design and creation of information infrastructure.

This project continued a line of the convergent solutions implemented by SOENT company at the different enterprises of Russia.
