Users downloaded about 7 million copies of the new version of Firefox 4 in 24 hours from the moment of its official release, Mozilla stated. It exceeds data on number of loadings of the new Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) browser from Microsoft (2.4 million copies) which was are performed in the first day of a release of software to the market last week.
Mozilla officially started Firefox 4 last Tuesday so the first million loadings was made in the first three hours, and to 10 o'clock in the morning of the environment (exactly in a day, the number of loadings made 6.5 million.
However, progress on number of loadings does not promise browsers of "bright future" yet, in particular, when there was a version of Firefox 3.0 in the middle of 2008 and was downloaded 8 million times, significant increase in a market share did not follow it. However, then Mozilla was included in the Guinness Book of Records by this parameter, and the record from these on is not broken.
Also the fact that Firefox 4 took the highest start in Europe, in the territory where the browser was always most popular did not become a surprise. From 7.6 million loadings of 44% users from Europe whereas from North America – only 26% performed. On the third place there were users from Asia from 20%.
Mozilla released the alpha of the Firefox 4 in February, 2010, and in July a series a beta followed. Initially the release of the commercial version was planned for November of last year, but elimination of bugs and defects dragged on prior to the beginning of this year.
It is interesting also that Firefox 4 works with the Windows XP operating system, the system of ten-year prescription which IE9 does not support any more. However according to the company Net Applications the XP system stood on 61% of machines which left online in February. From here outputs, unfavourable for IE9, arise.
Mozilla and Microsoft exchanged causticities for a long time concerning the solution of Microsoft to leave without user support of XP in the new version of the browser that forces them to use the eighth version of two-year prescription.
Firefox should use this chance now to recover the lost positions. According to Net Applications, its share in the market of browsers constantly decreased from peak values of November, 2009 and for the last 12 months made 21.7%, having fallen to 2.5 points.
For the same period of IE lost 4.8% of a share whereas Google Chrome added 5.3% and Apple Safari – 1.9%.
