2026: Appointment as CEO of the Central Nevsky Shipbuilding Plant, where missile ships are built
In January 2026, it became known that the new head of the Central Nevsky Shipyard in St. Petersburg will be the general director of the Southern Center for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Sergey Karachkov. The company is a key manufacturer of mine action ships for the Russian navy. Karachkov will take over in February 2026.
Former head Vladimir Seredokho headed the Sredne-Nevsky shipyard since November 2008. According to sources interviewed by RBC, the contract with him was not extended for two reasons. First, the manager has reached retirement age. Secondly, this decision is in line with the personnel policy of USC management aimed at replacing the directors appointed under the previous management of the corporation.
Sergei Karachkov, who has led the Southern Center for Shipbuilding and Ship Repair since March 2024, will move to St. Petersburg with a team of his deputies. The appointment is associated with a general reorganization of management at USC after the corporation came under the control of VTB Bank in the summer of 2023. The decision to transfer to trust was made by the Russian government and supported by President Vladimir Putin due to low financial efficiency and the presence of unprofitable projects.
Under the leadership of Vladimir Seredokho, the company mastered the serial construction of mine minesweepers of the 12700 Alexandrit project from composite materials - special light and durable plastics. Of the 15 ordered ships of this type, 9 units were transferred to the fleet. The plant also produces passenger catamarans for pleasure routes.
As the publication notes in January 2026, this is not the first personnel reshuffle in USC recently. During the first year after the transfer of the corporation under the management of VTB, the heads of the Admiralty shipyards, the Northern shipyard, the Krasnoye Sormovo plant and the Baltic plant were replaced.[1]
