2026: Product Announcement
On January 28, 2026, Aquarius filed an application to include its own mobile operating system (OS) AQOS with the AQ Store in the unified register of Russian software. An expert assessment of software (software) is being prepared, which is confirmed by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media.
According to Aquarius, AQOS is based on a modified Linux kernel and is designed for import substitution. The system excludes Google services to protect user privacy. For the usual functions, a microG package with open source is offered. Users will be able to install applications through the built-in AQ Store or the Russian RuStore, as well as directly from APK files.
The system is aimed at corporate clients and government orders. It is supplied pre-installed on Aquarius mobile devices from the factory. The inclusion of the OS in the register of domestic software will provide the company with tax benefits, access to grants and priority in public procurement, including for equipping critical information infrastructure (CII) facilities.
Experts interviewed by CNews note the strategic nature of the development. The founder of Getmobit, Maria Rukavishnikova, believes that the creation of its own OS is associated with the desire to control the ecosystem and the distribution of software on its devices.
Artem Starygin, head of the Directum mobile development line, pointed out the importance of supporting APK files, which will allow using existing Android applications. At the same time, he noted that the system is at an early stage of development and needs to be improved. Lawyer Yaroslav Zemskov from the BVMP bureau stressed that the presence of software in the register of the Ministry of Digital Development strengthens the company's reputation as a domestic developer.[1]
