2026: Detecting a marriage that causes suspension to fall apart while driving
In early February 2026, Chrysler announced the recall of more than 80,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs due to suspension problems. Its elements can be disconnected directly during movement, which increases the likelihood of a road accident.
The defect is associated with incorrect installation of the rear suspension springs: during driving, they can fall off on one or both sides. As a result, the driver may lose control of the car, provoking an accident. As of January 9, 2026, Chrysler received 20 customer service calls and 284 warranty applications due to this problem. No injuries due to the defect have been reported.
A total of 80,620 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs fall under the recall. These are 29,139 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee cars, as well as 51,481 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L cars. Modifications equipped with optional air suspension are not at risk.
It is emphasized that defective vehicles previously fell under the recall in June 2023: then the defect also concerned the components of the rear suspension. However, during the repair work, the springs were installed incorrectly. The problem is reported in a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration USA (NHTSA): Misaligning the rear springs can cause them to detach while driving, which can cause one or both of the rear wheels to shift and pose a danger to drivers and passengers of other vehicles.
Service center specialists will inspect the suspension on the recalled SUVs and, if necessary, repair the rear spring assembly. All work will be carried out free of charge for owners.[1]
