HP P4800 G2 SAN — the cluster system of storage of the corporate level which is closely integrated about a blade infrastructure. This senior solution in HP P4000 line and if the classical HP P4000 systems are based on the rack ProLiant servers, then P4800 is intended for the Customers using a blade servers of NR.

As controllers edges of HP of StorageWorks P4000sb G2 on which it is set to software of management of an array (SAN/iQ 9.0) are used. Edges are established in a bleydovy basket of HP BladeSystem c7000 in which also application servers are located. Thus, HP P4800 G2 SAN is connected with servers 10 the Gigabit link, using HP Virtual Connect Flex10. The disk subsystem of an array is based on rack regiments of high density HP MDS600, each of which contains 70 full-size SAS disks with a height only 5U. All components are dubbed therefore fault of any node does not lead to a stop of service.

Such architecture has a set of advantages over classical storage systems. Thanks to Virtual Connect infrastructure the need for network equipment — HBA, NIC, switches is reduced by 95%, and for 65% costs for creation of SAN decrease. Use of blades reduces the needs for the electric power and cooling by 30%, and the space occupied by a system — for 65%. Thanks to a single platform of system management of storage, servers and networks (HP Onboard Administrator), productivity of work increases by 40%.

The initial HP P4800 G2 SAN configuration consists of two storadzh-blades and one disk shelf with a minimum capacity of 31.5 TB on a fast 15K SAS disks. At upgrade not only disks, but also controllers are added that at the same time gives a linear gain and tanks, and storage system performance. In it one more advantage of HP P4800 G2 SAN over classical DWH at which it is usually possible to increase only capacity is. The uniform cluster of management may contain up to 16 controllers and 8 shelves of MDS600 that gives crude capacity 336 TB on fast disks and performance of a corporate array of the highest level.

HP P4800 G2 SAN already in an initial configuration is delivered with a broad set of useful software:

  • synchronous and asynchronous replication — for high availability or disaster recovery on the reserve platform and also data exchange between branches;
  • Snapshot — allows to create instant copies of logical volumes at a certain point in time;
  • Thin Provisioning — under each application capacity is selected in process of real requirement at each specific moment that allows to save disk space considerably;
  • SmartClone — allows to create instantly clones of the logical volumes which are not requiring selection of disk resources.

Expanded support of VMware vStorage API for Array Integration (VAAI) is built also in HP P4800 G2 SAN. Thanks to it the function of cloning of virtual machines implemented by a system VMware can be accelerated for 95% and at the same time to lower load of servers of VMware of ESX of 94%. It allows Customers to increase density of virtual machines per storage unit six times.

All these utilities are necessary for work with databases, mail servers and the systems of virtualization (both servers, and workstations) what the array of HP P4800 G2 SAN is intended for.
