2026: Announcement of the first Russian ship-loading machine

In January 2026, it became known about the creation of the first Russian ship-loading machine. The equipment created by SMM is designed for the new NSRZ Universal Refueling Complex.

According to the Made with Us edition, the ship-loading machine is a key element of a large-scale project to equip the NSRZ complex with specialized equipment. To transfer three different types of cargo, unique loading devices have been developed: spiral for hot briquetted iron (HBI), cascade for iron ore pellets (LRO) and a free fall device for iron ore concentrate (LCO).

The design of devices and filling units was carried out using the discrete element method (DEM analysis). This computer simulation technology accurately predicts the movement of bulk materials. The digital model was based on experimental data on the properties of particles and the strength of HBI briquettes.

DEM analysis made it possible to solve key problems: to predict the behavior of cargo flows during loading and calculate the volume of formation of fine HBI (particles less than 6.35 mm). The content of such a trifle in the hold according to marine standards is limited to 5%. Its control is critical for product quality and contract execution.

In October 2025, the production of the main components of the machine was completed at the SMM-Tyazhmash site and finished elements were shipped to NSRZ for installation. SMM specialists consider the commissioning of the machine to be a significant event for all project participants and the port industry as a whole. According to experts from Made with Us, the project is an example of effective interaction between the customer and the manufacturer, leading to a technological breakthrough and import substitution of critical transshipment technologies.[1]
