According to IDC, 19.4% of all new servers delivered in the fourth quarter 2010 (4Q10) are virtualized. Deliveries grew from 18.4% in the fourth quarter 2009. Their quantity in 4Q10 increased to 398,617 units, at the same time the key indicator of growth is the share of the developing regions.
And after decrease by 4% in 2009, new deliveries of the virtualized servers experienced growth to 28% during complete 2010. Expenses of end users on virtual servers increased by 23.3% in 4Q10 and to 13.5% in general for 2010, having reached $16.8 billion.
Income from virtualization in the world, for all types of processors, increased by 36% in a year, having reached in $4Q10 877 million in connection with development of use of virtualization which caused bigger value of the control software virtualization. Licensing of virtualization grew by 13% in comparison with 2009 and for 32% in general for 2010.
Matt Eastwood, the vice president of group of the corporate IDC platforms, noted: "2010 was characterized by high demand on new servers for support of quickly growing virtualized environments on leading x86 systems".
According to him, IDC continues to consider virtualization as a crucial step of development on the way to private "cloud" with quickly developing circles of clients, their concentrating attention on mobility, self-service, accounting and calculation of costs. As a result, IDC considers that the automation equipment, developing, are the battlefield for determination of winners and losers in the rapidly changing market.
Development of virtualization of servers gives a signal to change of behavior and intentions of buyers.
According to Michel Bailey (Michelle Bailey), the vice president for researches of trends of data centers of IDC, recession affected data processing centers in all regions and after this many organizations strengthened consolidation of advantages of technology of virtual machines and lower short-term capital expenditure.
The most successful suppliers in the market of virtualization will be those who will be able to automate management and accumulation of earlier installed base of virtual machines and also to create the platform for long-term innovations that will allow customers to improve the activity constantly. Increase of number of virtual servers already reality for many IT organizations and in IDC is expected that 2010 will be critical in implementation the IT politician and new management tools.
The market of deliveries of virtual servers remains stable
Hewlett-Packard holds position No. 1 in the world on deliveries of new batches of the virtualized servers from market shares in 43% in a quarter, having increased it in 4Q10 by 22% year on year. Dell its market share - 26%, from 9% of growth in comparison with the same period of last year saved the 2nd position. IBM remains on the third place from 15% of a market share in 4Q10 while deliveries grew by 12% in a quarter.
In 2010 Hewlett-Packard increased the market share to 41%, having increased it by 3% since 2009. Shares of Dell and IBM practically did not change in 2010 from 28% and 14% respectively.
Standings of the market of licenses of virtualization of x86
The virtualization platform of VMware of ESX remains number 1 with the general growth of licenses for 21% in 4Q10, by a year. Microsoft Hyper-V is the second leading virtualization platform which grew by 62% year on year. Citrix XenServer completes Top-3 list, with growth in 25% year on year. Meanwhile, the second type of hypervisors - by VMware Server and Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 continued decrease by 27% and 51% respectively.
