Ingosstrakh operates a class hi-end storage system

Company OSAO "Ingosstrakh" completed implementation of DWH of the hi-end level created based on EMC FAST technology from EMC company.

Task

Head of department of system administration of OSAO "Ingosstrakh" Victor Kuzmenko: "Our company has three data processing center (DPC) at the order. Each DPC is equipped with DWH of EMC Symmetrix of different generations, necessary for ensuring operability of the main business application. Equipment of the last DPC happened in 2010   . Implementation of EMC FAST technology and multilevel data storage became feature".

Solution

"In a preparatory part of the project specialists of our company jointly with specialists of EMC company carried out considerable work on determination of a profile of the loading created by the main business application. As a result it became clear that use of only 20% of data creates about 90% of load of DWH. However the data making these 20% can change significantly eventually, especially during reporting periods. Service of critical business applications inevitably causes the difficulties connected with data lifecycle management, especially when their volumes reach tens terabyte. Implementation of multilevel storage in this case is connected with considerable finance costs and does not allow to achieve effective use of resources without automatic data movement between levels. The problem of optimal use of levels of storage long time was particularly acute enough, and it managed to be solved only with an exit of EMC FAST technology" — Victor Kuzmenko comments.

Results

"Reducing costs for acquisition of DWH at least for 24% and operating costs at least for 50% without decrease in reliability of data storage became result of implementation of EMC FAST technology for our company — Mr. Kuzmenko summarizes project results. — Also It should be noted that we managed to reduce to zero the probability of emergence of errors at data movement between storage levels. Now a system does everything itself in the automatic mode, and data are where it is required for the greatest efficiency of the business application. Thus, in OSAO "Ingosstrakh" we managed to construct the effective infrastructure capable to adapt quickly under constantly changing business needs, providing the high level of service of our clients".
