In April, 2011 HP announces project completion on creation of a high-performance cluster in Lomonosov Moscow State University. The cluster was included in the latest revision of rating TOP-50 of supercomputers of the CIS, having taken in it the 26th place.

The cluster created in MSU received the name "Graphite!". Its peak capacity is 26.76 Tflops, according to the Linpack test — 11.98 Tflops.

"The main objective of an installed system — real mastering by users of the new supercomputer technologies connected with use of graphic processors. For a large number of applications similar architecture are exclusively effective, giving excellent ratios of performance, cost and energy consumption. Tasks of seismic exploration, molecular dynamics, cryptography, gas - and hydrodynamics engineers, computer design of drugs, perspective problems of tensor calculations — researches, as well as in many other areas, will be carried out to these using the new supercomputer of MSU" — Vladimir Voyevodin, the associate director of RCC of MSU noted.

For creation of a cluster "Graphite!" in qualities of a managing node the ProLiant DL380 G6 HP platform was selected. The computing system consists of 4 server HP S6500 chassis, in each of which 4 odnoyunitovy modules ProLiant SL390s G7 with two 6-core Intel Xeon processors X5650 and three GPU NVidia Tesla M2050 are located. As the operating system Linux RedHat is used, and the communication environment is constructed using Infiniband QDR technologies.

The storage system implemented in the form of two disk systems of HP StorageWorks D2000 also is a part of the solution, in each of which it is set on 12 disks 450GB-15k SAS 6G and the SmartArray P812 HP controller installed in the managing server. Connection of the controller to the disk systems is performed on SAS 6G channels.
