Asteros makes a contribution to opening of the new terminal of the International airport Sheremetyevo

The Asteros company completed creation of IT infrastructure and key communication systems of the new Terminal E International airports Sheremetyevo. Feature of the project was the fact that the equipment is provided to the customer in lease with a possibility of the subsequent redemption. It allowed the airport to receive in the shortest possible time all business benefits from use of the implemented solutions and at the same time to avoid one-time costs of IT.

The international airport Sheremetyevo, the largest Russian airport on volumes of regular international transport, services the clients – passengers and airlines – according to the international standards of quality. Within complex upgrade in the territory of the airport the construction of new air terminal complex is completed. On April 30, 2010 service of the first run in Terminal E with the general capacity to 7 million passengers a year is executed.

Within hardware of the new terminal the Asteros company carried out a complex of works on creation of uniform IT infrastructure. As a result based on network equipment of Cisco the local computer network expected more than 1000 connections was created. At the second stage of the project specialists of the company rendered a full range of services in equipment of the terminal the equipment of the major business systems of the airport:

  • registration of passengers and boarding gate;
  • armorings and sales of air tickets;
  • managements of productive activity and resources of the airport;
  • search of baggage;
  • conference and subscriber circuit and notification.

"The Sheremetyevo Airport actively develops – the number of transportations annually grows, the passenger traffic increases, the geography of flights of the airlines which are based at us extends. Therefore creation of modern technology base for reliable support of all business processes of land ensuring air transportation remains one of priorities for our company. Thanks to high qualification of specialists of Asteros company we built E full-function and flexible platform which will allow us to increase efficiency of customer service in the Terminal", – Khokhlov Igor, the director of directorate of information technologies of the International airport Sheremetyevo comments.
"The Asteros company gave to the airport support in financing of the project: IT infrastructure and communication systems are unrolled in the new terminal on the terms of payment by installments of payments for 5 years. Besides, during this period the company will give service support of the first line of a recording system of passengers and boarding gates with the guaranteed service level (SLA)", – Andrey Cheremnykh, the director of the department of work with the aviation and transport sector of Asteros company tells.
"The form of financing offered Asteros allowed us to avoid large one-time investments into the project due to implementation of monthly lease payments, and the released means to let in business development. At the same time we will be able to use at once the implemented solutions, and to compensate all costs for IT further, from the got profit", – Dmitry Kalinin, the Deputy General Manager for Economics and to finance of the International airport Sheremetyevo considers.


As a result of large-scale works in only 3 months more than 10 different systems were implemented. Today the command center is unrolled by the airport in terminal F on the area about 500 sq.m. and includes:

  • the center of operational management of production processes for service of runs, aircrafts, passengers, baggage and loads and also security and comfortable stay of clients in the territory of the airport;
  • operational staff for management of the airport at emergency emergence;
  • training class for working off of procedures of interaction in faulty and emergencies.

For carrying out audio-and high definition video conferencing (HD) the equipment of Bosch and Polycom is used. Information arriving from video cameras is displayed on two videowalls of 6*3 sq.m in size consisting of 18 LCD panels of Samsung. In operational staff and the meeting room plasma display panels of Panasonic are installed. Work of all systems is supported by blade servers of IBM, and regular power supply – the UPS from APC. Collecting, processing and information storage happens to the help of high-performance secure systems of IBM System Storage. The LAN, constructed on the equipment Cisco, connects command center with information and communications systems of the airport, airlines and partners.

The center began the work in the mode of trial operation in December, 2011. Today all systems are completely put into operation. Coordinators of the center constantly monitor production processes at the airport and in the adjacent territory. At detection of threats the operational staff predicts options of succession of events in a few minutes and takes measures for correction of a situation. Work of the headquarters is coordinated with actions of public services (the Ministry of Emergency Situations, FSB and so forth).
