Research: 90% of the Russian companies keep account of software

The Softline company published results of a research of use of systems for management of program assets in the Russian market. Such systems belong to the class Software Asset Management or SAM.

Results of a research showed that more than 50% of the companies keep documentation describing lifecycle of the software, more than 80% – accounting of the documents concerning the software.

In the report it is in more detail said that 76% of respondents know about SAM technologies, 12% - are badly familiar with them and 9% - at all do not know for what they are necessary. Approximately in the same proportion answers to a question were separated whether know the companies about the legislation regulating questions of use of software.

At the same time 91% of the companies carries out inventory and accounting of the used software. 87% - keep account of the documents concerning use of software, and their storage. 54% have no documents describing software from emergence of need for it before removal, at 26% they exist.

"It is pleasant to note that more than 70% of the enterprises in Russia know about SAM technologies, know the legislation regulating questions of use of software and more than 90% of the companies carries out inventory and considers software. It is a remarkable trend", – Vladimir Razuvaev, the Head of Department of management of licenses of Softline noted.

SAM technologies already use, for example, Renaissance Capital, Gazprom promgaz, the Trust National bank, OGK-4 and other companies. The Trust national bank, for example, carried out inventory of software on 7.5 thousand places in 140 cities of the country and brought management of software into a full compliance to ISO 19770-1. The project instantly gave return for the cost reduction account of licenses and paid off for the first nine months.

The format of the research conducted by Softline company was based on holding polls of IT specialists of an average and the top management and formation of expert evaluations of the level of development of SAM technology in the territory of the Russian Federation.

More than 3,000 IT specialists of an average and the top management from all regions of the Russian Federation, representatives of the companies locating the park of computers from 250 to 10,000 were involved to participation in the project.
