The IBM corporation started creation of the environment of cloud computing for infrastructure of the SAP applications used in Audi concern. The project is performed for the purpose of providing higher levels of performance, fast and flexible delivery of applications and resources to end users, decrease in infrastructure costs and achievement of energy efficiency with indicators are higher than the average level in combination with a possibility of almost unlimited expansion of infrastructure for support of future SAP applications.
Objectives
The Audi company needed to perform scaling of IT systems because of the increased use of applications, crucial for business, in such areas as production and logistics, vendor relationship management and management of personnel resources. Expansion of use of these applications had negative effect on reliability and flexibility of former IT infrastructure of the company.
In April, 2010 signed with Audi the contract with IBM for the purpose of complete upgrade the of the existing infrastructure of SAP applications, including consolidation and virtualization of the server hardware, standardization of processes and achievement of bigger operational flexibility. The new solution of infrastructure of SAP for Audi (SAP Infrastructure) is based on high-end servers of IBM with POWER 7 processors of new generation and the software of the IBM DB2 databases.
Comments
"Along with very high level of reliability and trouble-free operation, the new solution of SAP Infrastructure which we will translate on private Wednesday of cloud computing now significantly reduces electricity consumption — Lorenz Schoberl, the head of department of service of IT infrastructure in Audi reported. — The possibility of data compression which is built in DB2 will allow us to save time and money for archiving and storage".
"We could show that our combination of the POWER servers and DB2 database will provide decrease in an indicator of total cost of ownership within the next four years, both in terms of business, and in terms of technologies" — Gunter Frohlich, the manager of IBM on work with clients who keeps the project for Audi noted.
Objectives
The new infrastructure ready is ready for operation now, IBM in the private (closed) environment of cloud computing unrolled on servers of a corporate data processing center Audi will be controlled.
