Last Release Date: May, 2011
Branches: Transport
Technology: Management systems for the airports (aero logistics)

The Honeywell company announced in May, 2011 certification of an industry-first advanced alerting system of collisions (Traffic Collision Avoidance System – TCAS) with the SmartTraffic function. The system of Honeywell available already today does not require installation of the new equipment, there is enough updating of already existing systems (TCAS) that is advantage and difference of a new product of Honeywell from competitors. This feature will allow airlines to save more than 25,000 US dollars on each airplane. The Airbus aircraft-building company of the first tested the system of Honeywell and plans its installation on A320, A330 and A340 models. TCAS with the SmartTraffic function of Honeywell company will allow to satisfy requirements of airlines for ensuring the maximum security, decrease in operating costs and increase in efficiency of flights.

TCAS with the SmartTraffic function includes the In Trail Procedures (ITP) system directed to reduction of a distance between aircrafts which is reached by more effective routing in the conditions of absolute security. With ITP pilots can select the most effective height of flights over oceans and reach a destination point quicker, than, when using the traditional systems (TCAS), allowing airplanes to fly more closely to each other and to make faster landing without prejudice to security. The system of Honeywell is also equipped with the high-precision satellite ADS-B system (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast is Broadcasting automatic dependent observation), which increases the general flight safety and increases capacity of airspace by automatic transfer of necessary data on airplane provision by ground stations and by other aircrafts, without requiring participation of the pilot. The unique hybrid technology of observation (Hybrid Surveillance and Airborne Traffic Situational Awareness – ATSAW) allows to improve situational awareness at long distances and reduces risk of potential collision in air by display of the main dangers and providing an accurate rate.

The TCAS system from Honeywell meets all standards of International Civil Aviation Organization and the European mandate about Change 7.1. From the middle of the 1950th years Honeywell is a pioneer in development and improvement of the TCAS systems.
