2020: Reduction in sales of washing machines to 101.12 million units
Sales of washing machines around the world in 2020 reached 101.12 million units, a decrease of 1.2% compared to 2019. This became known in August 2021 from a study by Euromonitor International.
It was estimated that in 2020, the first place in terms of sales of washing machines was taken by the Chinese company Haier Group, which recorded 25% of the market as an asset, which is 0.5 percentage points more than a year earlier.
In second place is the American brand Whirlpool with a result of 13.9% compared to 13.2% in 2019. Near Whirlpool is the Chinese company Midea Group, which accounted for 12.8% of the global washing machine market in 2020, which by 0.7 percentage points does not reach the result of a year ago.
The fourth and fifth positions in the ranking of market leaders were taken by South Korean vendors LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, whose market shares in 2020 year amounted to 6.7% and 6.1%, respectively. In 2019, the performance of companies was the same.
According to Euromonitor International, the top five manufacturers of washing machines in 2020 accounted for 64.5% of the market.
The study says that the volume of the global market for washing machines in 2020 amounted to $52.8 billion (a decline of 3.36% relative to 2019). The global impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic was unprecedented and staggering, and the washing machine market also experienced it. The decline occurred despite positive factors such as urbanization and the growth of the clothing industry. As for the negative factors for the washing machine market, researchers attributed high electricity consumption to them.
According to experts, this market in 2021 will grow to $55.18 billion, and in 2028 - to $80.24 billion. The average annual growth rate is expected to be 5.5%.[1]
