2016

Akominvest plans to invest in projects related to 5G technology. This was announced at a conference in mid-December 2016 by the director of the subsidiary of the enterprise - the National Research Institute of Technology and Communications (NIITS) Alexander Minov. Read more in a separate article.

2010-2014: An attempt to create a 4G operator

Since 2010, Aikominvest has been trying to develop 4G networks in Russia. She owns 75% of Osnova Telecom (another 25% is controlled by the structure of the Ministry of Defense - Voentelecom), which managed to build a fourth-generation network in 19 cities of the country.

The company received 2.3-2.4 GHz frequencies without competition, at the request of the then Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov, while the department appointed Osnova Telecom as the only 4G service provider for the armed forces. But the situation has changed since 2012 with the change of leadership of the Ministry of Defense: the new minister refused the services of the company, and in 2014 Osnova Telecom lost frequencies by a court decision.[1]
