2025: Ex-chief Van Ilin sentenced to 13 years in prison for bribes
Former chairman state oil company CNPC Wang Ilin was sentenced to 13 years in prison and fined 3 million yuan ($416 thousand) for corruption and abuse of office. This was announced in May 2025 by the Chinese state television channel CCTV. Wang stepped down from his post at the company in 2020. In July 2024, he was expelled from the Communist Party " China for disciplinary violations," suspected of large bribes in exchange for promoting interested parties when receiving contracts. More here
